What is therapy like with me as your therapist?

I see therapy as an invitation to openly discuss what is on your mind, which typically centers around: what you are struggling with, how it is impacting your life and how you would like to manage it. I provide a safe, collaborative and non-judgmental space for you to explore this. I want to have a clear understanding of your experience so I know how best to support you. I like to establish goals in the first few sessions so we have a good roadmap of how we spend our time together.

While there can be a lot of talking in therapy, I also actively work with the majority of folks to build coping skills that support their nervous systems so that navigating difficult and stressful situations becomes more tolerable. Additionally, I see strength in connecting folks to resources in their communities that build out their support systems so the changes they make are sustainable. Therapy typically takes place one time a week, so the real work or change happens beyond the therapy office. Some folks like to start with one session per week but then transition to every other week, once ever three weeks or even monthly for maintenance as they make progress towards goals.

Healing is a non-linear path and looks different for every person, but as we work together and you begin to broaden your perspective and embody change, you will begin to feel better. Therapy is one of many supportive spaces that can help you arrive at what you are seeking.

My approach

I use an integrative approach for each person I work with, which means I draw on various theoretical backgrounds I am trained in to guide our work together. I believe the mind-body connection—how our attitudes, beliefs, feelings, and thoughts positively or negatively impact our physical body— as well as the relationship between the therapist and client to be central in improving emotional wellness and self-compassion. Some of the modalities I have training in and use most with clients include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), the Flash Technique, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and Polyvagal Theory.

For folks struggling with trying to conceive, experiencing infertility, have a mood disorder related to pregnancy or are new parents, I also have advanced training in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders through Postpartum Support International, as well as Perinatal Grief and Loss through Seleni Institute. I am also a trained Circle of Security parenting facilitator.

I am affirming of all LGBTQIA+ folks and strongly committed to anti-racism work. I strive to provide a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds in my therapy practice. As a social worker, I am committed to the values of social justice and equity, and believe our healing cannot happen without an understanding of the the larger social context and environmental influences that contribute to our individual suffering.

I try to understand how best to support the folks I am working with, therefore please ask me if you are interested in a specific type of therapy. If I do not have experience with it I will do my best to refer you to a local therapist who does.

Services & Fees

I do not accept insurance and am considered an Out-of-Network provider for all insurance carriers. I can provide you with a superbill that you give to your insurance company in order to check for reimbursement. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance provider to understand your benefits prior to starting therapy. If you are submitting a superbill, I will have to provide a diagnosis for their consideration of reimbursement.

Phone Consultation

I provide a free 20 minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and see if you would like to work with me. If we are a good fit, we can schedule our first appointment over the phone.

Office-based Therapy

I offer 60 minute appointments in-person at my office for individuals. Typically we will meet together once every week or every other week, depending on our schedules and what concerns bring you into therapy. Each 60 minute session is $125.

For folks who are receiving EMDR therapy, I may suggest increasing some of our appointments to 75 or 90 minutes to ensure we have enough time for working through all phases of treatment. Every 15 minutes added to a 60 minute session is an additional $30.

Teletherapy

This is a great option for clients who are unable to make their in-person appointment for reasons like an illness, loss of childcare or transportation or due to travel. Therapy will take place virtually via a secure link that I send you prior to your appointment time. I offer 60 minute virtual sessions for $125.

Walk & Talk Therapy

I also provide walk and talk therapy for established clients. We will meet somewhere in public within 5 miles of my office, usually at a park or greenway and casually walk during our therapy session. These sessions are typically 45 or 60 minutes in length and cost $95 or $125. Moving our bodies in nature can help our nervous systems calm down, and the endorphins released from gentle exercise can help improve mood and increase energy. Walk and talk therapy can be a great option for most clients.

Reduced Fee

I know that therapy can feel out of reach especially if you are not able to utilize insurance or just having a tough time making ends meet. I believe therapy should be accessible so I offer reduced-fee sessions for a specific amount of time that you and I determine together before beginning therapy. I am able to offer a sliding scale from $10 to $100 per session.

Cancellation

I require 24 hours notice for cancellation of any therapy session. If an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of its scheduled time you will be charged the full session fee.
